One of the most relevant representatives of political rap from Argentina is Sara Hebe. The artist combines both Hip hop and Cumbia, a Colombian style of music that meshes African and Spanish rhythms and melodic motives. This creates a hip hop sound that is perhaps initially unusual for our ears. Yet the content of Sara Hebe’s tracks are heavy, to say the least: her songs are about experiences of discrimination, street violence and feminism. And is anyone else reminded of the Beastie Boys listening to the drum patterns on “Esa Mierda”?
