Kelis

Kelis’s „Milkshake” brought all the boys to the yard, and those who not fully celebrate this legendary MC are possibly lactose intolerant.

With this track Kelis probably created not only a catchy tune forever, but also an immediate and recurring mental replay associated with memories of this time. Furthermore, on Instagram, she shares insights into her everyday life with a vibe that conveys an overwhelming authenticity and her philosophy of life not having to rely on external confirmation in order to do her own thing and love herself exactly as she is. Okay, cool. A real role model – Female*MC legend, mom, wife, Nas’s ex-wife, sister, family person, girlfriend, fashionista, style icon, TV star, animal lover, farmer, cook, cookbook author („My Life on a Plate“) … okay, crazy! Her recipe for success is spiced with a pinch of calm nonchalance. Yummy! Yummy!

The Harlem born singer is known for her unique mix of Neo-Soul, Electro, HipHop and R&B. As early as 1999, before her 20th birthday, she sang alongside the now deceased Wu-Tang legend, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, on his song, „Got Your Money,” and beguiled the critics. In the same year, her celebrated debut album, „Kaleidoscope“, was released, and Kelis redefined Female Empowerment with the hits „Caught Out There,” „Good Stuff,” and „Get Along with You.” In 2001, she released the follow-up „Wanderland“. Then, she left Virgin Records and released her third studio album, „Tasty“, in 2003, featuring the singles „Milkshake,” „Trick Me,” „Millionaire,” and „In Public,” all of which totally hit through the roof. „Kelis was Here“,her fourth album (2006), was the subject of label disputes. So, after this release, she took a break from music and began training as a cook. Her fifth studio album, „Flesh Tone“, was released in 2010, with featured singles „Acapella” and „4th of July”. The sixth studio album „Food“ followed in 2014 and brought us the singles „Jerk Ribs,” „Rumble,” and „Friday Fish Fry.”

Kelis’s collaborations are cross-genre and diverse: Busta Rhymes, Enrique Iglesias, No Doubt and Björk, to name just a few and underline the diverse and unique spirit of this artist.
